Question poniac 2.8 efi to 5.7 tpi

Hey guys. I was wondering if you could help me out. I have just recieved a 1986 poniac firbird that had the 2.8 EFI motor in it and the motor is blown. Well I want to put a 5.7 TPI motor in. I was wondering if any one could help me out on the subject. I am not sure about every thing that will be needed. Now I know that the tranny wont bolt up to the v8 from the v6. It is an automatic by the way. I was thinking of a 400 turbo but am not sure if it will work. Is there a tranny that would be easier to use? If so what? From what I have gathered there are already holes on the frame for the v8 motor mounts. True or not. I have also heard that you need to upgrade suspension, exhaust is an obvious... and might need to modify the tranny crossmember, and upgrade the radiator and get the shrowd ect.. Correct? When it comes to the computer and wiring harnes do I just need to get the wireing harnes and computer from a 5.7 tpi and replace that from the original? How much work would have to really be done. The more details the better. There will me much graditude to any one that can help. The more info the better like I said. Money isn't much of an object. Where I'm from 5.7L motors, comps, wiring harnesses ect.s are pretty easy to find and cheap to get ahold of. It is more of a pride object if you know what I mean. (And so I can take the car and pull up to my buddy with the 1990 3.1 poniac and rape him for fun and tell him that I still have a decent gasmilage from a 5.7 injection system and then rub it in his face) Well any how. I would apriciate any help. Does any one have a site that explains this swap if it has been done before? If any one can help please do. Thank you.

Hey if your gonna do all that mise well slap in a 383 stroker. you dont have to put in a computer unless your running a TBI, TPI, or fuel injection system. You could use any compitition carb like an edelbrock 750 and you'll be running around 400-500 H.P. and get around the same gas mileage. Vs's spending more for the 5.7l with a fuel injection system and computer pushing 300 h.p. Jason

Re: poniac 2.8 efi to 5.7 tpi

ill tell you what to do, if you can find a trans am with the engine and tranny for cheap that has been wrecked of just being junked out. you will need, the engine, of course, tranny, be sure to get the wiring harness, under the hood, also unbolt the entire dash and also get that wiring harness. you will need the entire harness with all the plugs. just swap everything out into your firebird. also be sure to get the computer. it costed my buddy $400 to do that, an now he has a kick ass firebird
