ARB Partnership in 4X4 Evolution 2
Hey Guys I have been an Xterra fan for a long time (and owner)and the company I work for, Terminal Reality, has done a couple of 4x4 games in the past Monster Truck Maddness 1 and 2 and 4x4 Evolution ( the box had a yellow X on the front ). We spoke to ARB today and they are going to play a major role in our new product 4x4 Evolution 2. We have a project Xterra that we are building up (currently equiped with 32 inch Swampers, Rancho 9000's, SLR shackels, Nissmo Torsion Bars, and a K&N pop charger) and they have been kind enough to supply us with IPF lights a Bull Bar and front and rear air lockers. We will be posting our install pics on 4x4evolution.com. In the new game you will be able to drive the Rubicon or Moab and race in Baja alll the while building up your truck with brand name stuff, like ARB bars etc. Stop by take a look and let us know what you think!

Welcome to the board.
I am intersted in talking with you guys. I'm currently developing for Xbox, and have "just a little bit" of interest in Xterras. Check your private messages. -Schlud |

That's too bad that you already have an X to use.
I was going to suggest that you could have borrowed mine and then returned it after all the mods ![]() |

cool. so with all these free mods does this mean that your game will actually have realistic physics and drive like the real vehicle? cause I am a huge gamer and 4x4 evolution gave me an uproariously funny 5 minutes. except i was laughing at the game not with it. i laughed so hard at how the trucks could stay righted without flipping over on an 80 degree off camber situation goign up a ravine. i only wish my X had suction cups on the bottom that ran at 60 mph offroad at that angle.
maybe this time whomever designs your physics engine will go off-roading and see what it is really like to actualy be behind the wheel. mapers can do terrain very nicely, but is the physics model is snot than it just makes for laughter. tell them to go take a look at a game called "Halo" and see some real physics. and yes i do understad that there are sacrifices made for game play, but come on!!! and please do something different this time, as 4x4 evolution was just another racing game that happened to have unrealistically lifted trucks and SUVs in it. If you are just going to make it so it is trucks running fire roads at high speeds, heck i can just wait for the pictures to be posted from a certain person in the Xterra community that will remain nameless. |

Sliders
It is funny that you mention that we are talking to EOE about their sliders to see if we can get them in the game.

hopefully EOE isn't as gullible as ARB obviously is to your free parts scheme.

Ouch that hurts!!!
Actually it is very important that we have the support of the manufactures and we build a truck up. It allows the physics guys to see what it is like really offroading and the difference a piece of equipment makes. We are really trying to make the most accurate 4x4 game with this one. You can get stuck, you can break a universal or a winch cable and the truck will get damaged if you jump it or hit the trails too hard without building it up first. We have allot of the big players on board now with ARB, Warn, Interco, BFG, Rancho and others and I hope that when you guys get a chance to play the game you can see the difference of a game that was made by 4X4 enthusiasts for 4X4 enthusiasts. |

i really don't understand how installing locker will help a physics engine designer. why not just go riding with area 4 wheeling clubs for each of the types of vehicles that you want in the game. feel them and see them in action. that would help. cause otherwise you are going to moding out all the different makes and models you have in the game. again it sounds like a scheme to me. next you will be putting banner ads and billboards in the game in return for free parts. last i checked most of the 4 wheeling spots you mentioned didn't have billboards.
BTW, 4 wheelers usually don't put pop chargers in their rigs. the potential to get water logged would be there. |

Syncros issue
Well it is obvious that you have your issues and you are welcome to your opinions.
We will enjoy the support that we have from the manufactures and do all we can to make sure that their products are represented fairly in the product and enhance the gaming experience. We are rewritting the physics engine to remove a lot of the stuff that you have been complaining about and to make gameplay far more realistic. Having a couple 4 wheel drives donated by Nissan, Ford, and Toyota for us to go wheel in is key to getting this game done properly. The Xterra just happens to be the one that we are building up. You may not like what we have done but in the past 7 months that 4x4 evo has been on store shelves 1.26 million people disagree with you enough to part with their hard earned money an pick up a copy. I did not start this thread to start a flame war with anyone over this issue and I just wanted to pass on our thanks to the people that help us out. BTW the pop charger is used by REAL wheelers that have a modified raised and shielded intake, sealed ignition, relocated electrics, modified diff vents, and a fan shut off for submerged operation. Provided you are not a weekend warrior that goes charging in at 40 mph the X does quite well in water. Next on the list is a snorkel.:bandit: Last edited by cdnav8tr; 05-30-2001 at 05:26 PM. |

you are correct on the pop charger. i can see that. good point.
i wasn't really trying to start a flame war either. you were just talking about two of some of my favorite past times, games and trucks. so i get riled up, sorry. If you guys are in fact building up a bunch of trucks, ok then that is cool. then i agree with you, it can have tons of benefit from a game play perspective. i shall wait and reserve judgement on the next version. i did what clients have done in past jobs that i have had. they are focussed on what you said, not on the big picture and cannot see the end product or the possibilities. oops. and i will say this. if you can get me a prerelease beta of it, and it's good, i will gladly print the first page of this thread, eat the paper and endorse the product. cause if you can make it like you are saying, i would love it. |

Soon to be impressed
I will see to it that you make it on the external beta. I understand your reservations and in fact I agree with many of the things you were saying about the first version. Personally I did not care for the physics or the lack of damage modeling and both of these are being fixed for the next version. We are going to try and take the trucks out to GOX this year so hopefully we will see you there and you can see what we are all about.
