1987 Camry Black Exhaust Smoke

Everytime I start my car, I can see thick grey smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. However, after I start driving, the black smoke disappears. I'm thinking it is an oil leak into the engine so the engine burns a bit of oil, making the black smoke... Any ideas?

If anyone else also thinks its the oil leaking into the engine, any solutions to fix that problem?

Thanks.

Re: 1987 Camry Black Exhaust Smoke

It could be either valve seals, spark plug tube seals, or a couple of bad gaskets.

I vote for valve seals.

Re: 1987 Camry Black Exhaust Smoke

Most likely to be seals...I strongly recommend if you don't have much experience with head disassembly, then to have this task carried out by a mechanic.
