ZX2 Lacks Power

I just bought a '03 ZX2 and it's been giving me some trouble when I try to get on the gas. I usually baby the car, but if I get the engine above 3500 RMP in any gear, the engine stutters really bad. The best way to describe it is if the wheels broke loose and were trying to regain traction at a high engine speed. The car is a 5 speed, and I didn't know whether this would be a clutch problem or not. It's almost a brand new car. If anyone has any advice please let me know before I try the "Hit it with a socket wrench" approach. Thanks everyone

Re: ZX2 Lacks Power

The Car So Far Is Entirely Stock. The Plugs are some ford factory plugs. There's no mods or anything like that, just a out of the factory car. The one thing I was thinking is, if this is true, is that I've heard ZX2's are horribly aspirated when they come stock. If some sort of up graded air filter would help please let me know. Thanks!
