Igniton Module and Coil

First I'd like to say I love my car, it is very good on gas and purrs like a kitten or it did until I took my 1996 Pontiac Sunfire in for brake work and when I got the car home I found that they had removed the valve cover and ignition pack and exchanged it for a different one. I'm not a stupid woman, I check my fluids regulary and keep my car very clean. Now the car is knocking and it won't stay running because the sensors are all messed up. I went back the next day and told them about the exchanged parts and was told I didn't know what I was talking about because I'm a woman. Then told me to remove the valve cover and ignition pack they would of had to pull the motor and it would have taken about 15 hours, instead of the 8 hours it took to do my brakes. I believe it is only 4 bolts to remove the valve cover and ignition pack and would take about 30 minutes, if I am wrong please let me know. I am assuming that the guy who did the work must have a 2.4L with Twin Cams in a vehicle he owns and instead of fixing his own he just switched it with mine thinking that because I am a woman, I wouldn't know the difference. If he had put the same valve cover back on I might not have noticed as quickly, mine was the silver one that read 2.4L TWIN CAM and the one in it now is red and says 16v QUAD 4 DOHC. What other vehicles have a 2.4L in them? Thanks

Re: Igniton Module and Coil

First of all 8 hours to do a brake job! On a Sunfire you can change all 4 brakes, including calipers, turn the rotors and a whole lot more in less than 2 hours. Secondly, the garage certainly ripped you off. As far as removing the valve cover and the ignition coil they are way out of line since it only takes a few minutes to remove both. This idiot probably needed parts for his car and decided that a five finger discount was a lot cheaper than buying them himself. The Quad 4 was not even offered in your model car so you are absolutely right on the changes. If I were you I would call the police and report the entire incident as well as calling the Better Business Bureau and filing a complaint. Just to show this guy that he picked on the wrong woman.

Just like GTP Dad said, you should report these guys to the right authorities. Just a few pointers so they can see you know what you are talking about. Don't talk about valve covers, the 2.4 don't have them! They have two camshaft and lifters housing assemblys. The part that was changed on your engine is a coil/module assembly. It takes about 5 minutes to completely remove from your engine, 10 minutes if you have bad artheritis in your hands and on a 96 it should defenitly be aluminum colored (silver). The knock probably comes from a faulty coil pack causing missfiring. Go get hem girl!

I have no respect for a thief, let alone a male chauvanist thief that thinks a woman is too stupid to realize she's been ripped off. I hope the police follow up on your complaint when you file one, and nail his lame ass to the wall for you.
