Safe to Drive?

The check engine light is on in my '99 Rodeo. I had the spark plugs replaced several weeks ago d/t this and now it is back. I had the code read at Autozone yesterday and it is a misfire in cylinder 5. Bad spark plug?....bad wire? If it is a wire do I need to have all wires replaced to the spark plugs or just the bad one?
I am really busy the next few days and cannot get it back to the shop (where I had the plugs installed) until late Thursday or Friday.....but I need to drive my car (around 75 miles).....is it safe for me to drive my Rodeo this much with the misfiring in cylinder 5? Will it cause any more damage to the Rodeo?

Thanks!

Re: Safe to Drive?

What kind of plugs did you replace them with?

If the light is not flashing Isuzu says it is okay to keep on driving.

Your missfire is most likely due to the wrong type of plugs, or a broken intake manafold gasket. I have not read to many folks with coils going bad. If you have a bad coil you can just replace the one. To test if you have a bad coil try moving coil #5 to another cylinder first.

I'm not sure what kind of plugs the shop used (but they cost $28/each). The light flashes while driving and stays on when parked or when I'm stopped.

I hate to say this, but if it is flashing I would bring it in for sure. The #5 coil may not be seating properly?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll drive it to the shop from work today and find other means of transportation tomorrow.
