Bad Hub or not???

Hi all,

2001 Grand Am GT, 66k...

Ok, had a bad left front tire out of alignment...it would shimmy and make one heck of racket when going down the road at highway speeds and turning to the right...anyway fixed that problem with a tire balancing. Here's my next problem on the car...

When sitting still, if you whip the wheel to the left you can "feel" a clunk in the steering...is this the hub going bad? If not any suggestions? I still get a little clunky, albeit it so slightly, when driving down the road at speed every now and then - related? This clunk is also evident when driving, slowly, and making a quick hard turn to the left as well...My Bro-in-law replaced the hub on his GM product and he said the bad hub was barely noticeable to tell it was bad...

Any help on diagnostics?

HOW do you check the hub? Also, what size is the axle nut? I've been told maybe a 36 mm???

Is it a tie rod? How to check?

Something else?

Argh, this car is frustrating...PW out, Blower out, Knobs falling off, darn tires need replacing....argh!

Thanks,
Rick
