First Upgrades?

I have a 97 wrangler 4 cyl that I want to upgrade. I have gotten a couple small things for it like a Hi-Lift Jack, which I plan on getting the winch kit for. It came with 245's so atleast the tires are a little bigger than stock. I also intend to get tow hooks and all the neccessary straps as well. My main question though is what kind of other upgrades would you recommend I get next. I know that tires and a lift are a big one, but what other things should I consider. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me from personal experience what they did first (or wish they had done first). I intend on using this as a trail rider, but also as a daily driver to get me to and from college and work so I cant get too extreme with it.

Re: First Upgrades?

hey sean, no offense, but your first upgrade should be under the hood. peruse this forum and you'll find a lot of 4cyl problems, before you throw a ton of cash at it. But if you cant swap it out with a 4.0l 6cyl. Make sure your electrical is up to snuff. a winch uses a lot of battery. I personally own 3 jeeps and unless you have the go devil 4 banger from WWII, becarefull. The only way not blow your money, is for every thing you want to do, think about what it is that makes that system work, then upgrade each as you go. DON'T TRY TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE.

First Upgrades

I have a 95 4 banger and my first upgrades were a K&N cold air intake.

Don't bother with the throttle body spacer unless you want to go through the hastle of getting or boaring out your throttle body and intake manifold.

I would also think about either mounting an electric fan on the back of the radiator or getting a lighter fan. this will take a bit of strain off the engine, kindof like when you turn off the A/C.

I would also look at a Cat back system, you could go with a raven at your local midas which flows and sounds like other systems but is alot cheaper.

Then have fun with all the other stuff: driving/fog lights, rock rails, and heavier bumpers (you will need a heavier bumper in the front if you plan on adding a winch).
