K&N VS. Airade?

I'm looking to install a cold air system in my 2004 Silverado 4.8. I found the Airade system for $204. Is this going to be comperable to the K&N or not even close? Any input would be appreciated.

I don't have any experience with the airaid but have installed a K&N FIPK on my truck. Installation was easy and the performance gains were right on the money. Got it for just over $200 new on ebay. Even full retail would have been worth the money in my opinion. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for!

However, in all fairness, there's lots out there. Do a little research and get what you really want and need.

Re: K&N VS. Airade?

I installed an AIRAID on my 2004 Silverado 2500 6.0L. Install was easy and gained in gas mileage and feel like I gained in power as well. Paid $300 CDN which was cheaper than what I could get the K&N for which is why I bought the AIRAID.

Re: K&N VS. Airade?

FYI...
Checkout the results of a COMPLETE ISO 5011/SAE J726 test of several Air Filters for the GM Duramax Diesel. The test was performed under controlled conditions using a $285,000 machine at TESTSTAND Corp of Rhode Island (The manufacturer of the machine). The Test was organized by Spicer who is a member of TheDieselPlace.com forum.
The test compared several paper, oiled foam and gauze filters including the K&N ... The results may surprise you...

Click here: Air Filter Study Completed ... Long thread... test results are presented on page 4...

Interesting...

I looked at the test report... and I can see where the amount of particulate matter filtered and the efficiency are annotated. My only question is was a K&N FIPK used or just the repalcement filter. I don't know about the numbers end of the equation but can attest and show where installing a FIPK has SIGNIFICANTLY improved throttle response and had an ongoing improvement in gas mileage (as long as I keep my foot out of it). That being said I still believe that there are significant perfomance increases and a long term cost savings gained by using a K&N FIPK.

Re: K&N VS. Airade?

The results of the test show that the foam and gauze type filters flow more air but the paper filters catch more dirt.. IMHO, unless you have a perfomance application, the paper is the best option for getting the cleanest air into the engine.
