Re: 7 lb flywheels rock!

yeah I need a new clutch and am saving for a full (finally a decent one) sports clutch kit and was tossing up on a new fly wheel too. So you'd obviously recommend it>?

How long have u had your new clutch/flywheel set-up though. You say you haven't had problems...but if you haven't had it on for that long, you might not be able notice the problems yet.

so far the only problem i've noticed was that when the engine is still cold if you let off the gas real fast it'll stall but... but my 12 lber would do that too... other wise i don't find it hard to drive with, granted yes the launching technique is a bit different than stock... but what would one expect, its half the weight. i havn't gotten to play with it all that much yet, so if i do notice any other annoyances i will let ya know about it, but so far its all good.

and yes i would def. suggest a lightweight wheel, a lot of folks tend to frown on the 7, and it is a little bit harder to drive (its a compramise) as i said before i also have a 12 sitting around that i used to run and was very happy with it, its a good medium, but yes most definatly, flywheels make your car so much more fun because it makes it a little more rev happy and rev matching tends to be a lot easier

this is my $0.02

Re: 7 lb flywheels rock!

I would really like to get a light flywheel also.

Did you ever go to the track before the new one? Will you go now?

It would be fun.. Some reading I did said it wasn't much better for drag racing, but I can't make any sense of it and I won't believe it until I actually know.

sorry, i didn't have a chance to make it to the track, really wish i would have. the but dyno says it accelerates a bit faster, but you know how accurate that can be... there is a lot less rotational mass so i should have freed up a few ponies so they make it to the wheels.

its not about the power... its about the fact that when you hit the gas pedal the tach shoots right up... i don't know if you ever rev-match, or heel toe, but i do and it makes it a helluva lot easier, and thats what the flywheel is for, to me a few extra freed up ponies is like a bonus, on an engine dyno you won't show any gains at all, but to the wheels you should pick up a few lost through the rotational force needed to spin that 15 lb wheel...
