Few more questions about my wagon
Ok im in the process of getting and rebuilding a 350 to put in my 84 wagon. this will take awhile since i have veary little money to spend on it.
so i need to make my 305 last atleast another year and im currently having a few issues with it. 1. alot of oil and smoke out of breather, im asuming i have bad rings or something, going to be puling the engine and replace pistons before this winter. could any thing else cause this besides rings? its only only on pasanger side that it does this, no extra smoke or any oil on the driver side breather. and if i were to replace my air cleaner asymbaly, where do i run the passanger side breatehr too? 2. veary light ticking noise when im going down highway, can only hear it when im next to a barrier wall. 3. I think my computer is fucked, earlyer this summer i had my battery unpluged for a week and half, and ever since then my computer doesnt work right, atleats im thinking its the computer. runs fine when i first start car but once it warms up it has alot of hesitation at low rpms and the car shakes like crazy, so ive been driving a little harder too keep it from runing low rps in second gear. 4. when im driving down highway if i let off the gas i can feal the tranni disingage or what ever it is that it does. then when i press the gas again it revs up and then reengages and it causes teh car to shake lightly.. thanks |

Re: Few more questions about my wagon
Either your low on tranny fluid, your vaccum modular on the tranny is leaking into the vaccum hose, the built in electric module in the tranny could be messed or the computer is sending it wrong info , or your entire tranny is screwed. As for the engine, its most likely the rings. They could be warped. If thats the case, theres gonna be abnormal wear in the cylinder.

Number 8 cyl can cause problems with cylinder leakage, and I had oil in the breather since about 300k miles. It's not that big a deal, but I changed breather filters a lot more often than I used to. There's no breather on the driver's side, but that's where the PCV valve is. If the PCV valve (and the hose connected to it) is bad, replace it. Smoke out of the breather/PCV can also be a sign of bad valves, valve guides, valve seals, etc. Don't waste your money on a new air cleaner assembly. Don't tear the 305 down and install new pistons, etc. Wait until you have the 350 ready to install and then you'll be dollars ahead. That light ticking noise you hear is consistent with the valvetrain (or an exhaust leak at the manifold or down-pipe (or both). I guarantee you that it'll get louder. Your computer is fine. You should concentrate on inspecting/replacing all the vacuum hoses under the hood. If they are leaking, the car will shake at idle accordingly, and you have to give it more gas to keep it running. I also found that after 350,000 miles, the carb-to-intake bolts loosened up and replacing the gasket and staying on the torque settings solved the problem. The reason it doesn't shake when cold is that the choke allows the carb to run rich enough to make it smooth. For issue #4, you might find this hard to believe, but that's actually normal. The torque converter clutch is disengaging. It shouldn't hesitate too much to re-engage when you're on the throttle, so if it's abnormal to you, get it looked at. The car shaking when you're starting it back up could be related to the vacuum hose issue (noted above). The 700R4 does not have a vacuum modulator, but the TV cable may need an adjustment. Depending on how you drive and how aggressive your maintenance schedule, you could have up to 50,000 miles left on the 305. You could have as few as 10,000. Lemme know how it goes, m-kay? I think I'm gonna go the 350 replacement engine route. |
