99 blazer- hood won't open

Please help! My hood won't open. It hasn't been opened in a couple months and when I pull the inside latch, nothing happens.

Re: 99 blazer- hood won't open

Do you feel any kind of resistance behind the hood release? Is the cable connected to the back side of the latch? If it is, you may try having someone push down and up on the front of the hood while you pull on the release. Kinda like giving CPR to the hood. If that doesnt work, you may have to end up using pliers to pull the cable behind the latch out farther and still have the friend working the hood mechanism. Unfortunately, when you so get it open you need to lubricate the hood release mechanism, and possibly look into getting a new hood release cable if it ends up being the sourse of the problem. Hope this helps. -Chris

Re: 99 blazer- hood won't open

Just had the same problem... kept releasing the hood by pulling on the cable with pliers (see prvious post) cable tends to stretch..

did not want to eventually get caught with this problem on the road..

solution...new hood release cable etc.. about $100 insalled at a local garage..

do it soon... my MGA had the same problem and it took ages to finally release the hood.. I finally cut a whole on the underside of the radiator shrowd to get in with a long screwdriver to pop the hood...

I pull mine and then slam the door and it usually pops up
make sure you pull it hard and fast the first time.

I had the same problem with my 2000.

I had a friend pull up on the hood while I pulled the release lever and the extra force brought it up.

I sprayed some WD-40 on the hood latch mechanism after we got it open and it works like a champ now.

Don't pull too hard or fast! The cheap plastic handle is just waiting to break on you!

My 99 has the same problem. I pull the release. I feel the cable pull but the hood doesn't pop up. I just get my fingers under it and tug up. As long as the cable is still connected to your interior release, that should be enough.

Oh yeah, and obviously lube the catch to make it easier next time.

Re: 99 blazer- hood won't open

did you get it open yet? mine was doing the same thing. i pulled too hard and broke the plastic handel. to get it open for the temp time i cut the cable near the grill then trimmed the outer shield leaving the inner cable longer so i could open it with pliers. only a temp fix. i found a new cable on ebay for 10 bucks and installed it in about an hour. you only need a couple of tools.

Re: 99 blazer- hood won't open

make sure the two rubber "stands" inside the hood (near the corners of the hood) are not too high...

If they are, there will be too much pressure pushing the hood UP, therefore, the cable to release the hood will be too tight.
