radar detectors

i think i need a radar detector. lately cops have been cracking down on speeding where i live but i don't have a detector. i was wondering what are some good models. my friend said to get a scrambler or jammer, i thought those were illegal but i don't know. how can i found out (i'm in new mexico)? also, what are some good brands for detectors? would i want radar or laser or both?

Re: radar detectors

I would advise you to just slow down a bit. You can still get caught and they give you a false sense of security. When the heat is off you can resume your safe high speed driving

Re: radar detectors

If you want the best check out http://www.valentine1.com/ their radars are more expensive but they do work the best. It is definatly better to spend the money on a radar detector than a speeding ticket.

Re: radar detectors

Escort Passport 8500 runs about 200-300 bucks and works awesome, track up to (i think) 8 different signals (like 8 cops at once) and can even tell exactly what the freq is so like me an my friends know the exact code from each squad so i know who it is, and it also works as a volt meter. for the price i think it is awesome. but ya still have to be careful cause they can still do instant-ons.

Re: radar detectors

most of the cops use the instant-ons (they turn the gun on a second before they clock you, so it's too late by the time the radar detector picks it up).

usually if you don't go anymore than 10 mph over the limit they won't give you any trouble.
