motor turns over fast won't crank

help! my 2001 grand am has had security light staying on a few weeks went to drop off baby at sitters low fuel light was on came back out car wouln't crank put 3 gallons of gas in still just turns over nothing any ideas

check the battery terminals to see if they are croded more then likey the problem

could be your starter, sometimes when they go bad the starter will still turn and sound like its starting but the clutch part that actually cranks the engine is not catching. if its not something simple and you dont figure it out, have the starter checked by a mechanic.
