Unhappy Going faster in a non-turbo car?

All right. I just today got an intake installed. Cannibilized it from a car who's owner is more interested in the American Muscle than the Japanese Rice. I don't remember what brand, but it's definitely better than the stock intake. Better throttle response and a cool new little rumble on it. Now I know that puttin a header, openin up the exhaust would improve the performance of the car a bit, but, I'm wondering, on a non-turbo car is there any other ways to boost performance? I want to improve this car's performance as best I can, short of bein stupid and tryin to add a turbo or somethin like that. Speed. I need more of it.

I've got lowering springs and a strut bar (is that what they're called? The bar that you can run from the top of your suspension in front from left to right) for the handling. Uhm, that's 'bout it. How do I go faster?

Re: Going faster in a non-turbo car?

dude, the only way you can make non turbo 4 bangin imports faster is too chuck in nitrous. Porting and poilshing, intakes, exhaust, etc are all good, but they dont do too much for your car. Turboing is the best, supercharging not as good but stil cool...nitrous is cheap and fast but itll fck up your engine...get a GST if you can.

Re: Going faster in a non-turbo car?

Well, if buying a turbo dsm is not an option, there are a few things you can do to make your car a little bit faster (but still not very fast). I'd start out by getting a bigger throttle body, and doing some porting of the intake manifold to match it. If turboing the car is not an option, then nitrous will probably be your best bet. I'd go with either a 50 or 75 shot. That should keep you busy for a while, good luck

Re: Going faster in a non-turbo car?

Good luck with that. i was planning on doing it, but i saw how much money it would be to make it fast without a turbo and i juss gave up on it. ill juss wait till i get a gst or gsx, but if you really want to do it, bclipse website is the best.

Re: Going faster in a non-turbo car?

Wow dudes, thanks a bunch for not rippin me a new one like ya'll been doin to some other newbs on the forum. That 2gnt tuning guide is really informative, and I thank ya for that. I don't think at this point getting the car turboed is really an option for me. Maybe sometime down the line I'll be able to afford the time and money. Dunno though, and, thanks again

Almost seems right, but a few corrections. There's only so much you can do with non turbo. Your options after basic upgrades are a turbo kit or a turbo car, the second being preferred. Nitrous does not "fck up your engine", or else everyone wouldn't be using it.

If you use nos temporarly it wont do too much and dont spray too much at a time. If you go crazy with it like some people do on the track using it on every run the whole way down then your engine will get messed up.

BUT do remember. Your motor will live longer with all throttle no bottle.

Re: Going faster in a non-turbo car?

That seems to be the standard stance on nitrous, JoeWagon, from whoever I've talked with. That includes racers, ricers, and professional mechanics. They said one type was better with the engine thatn another...i think dry was better than wet, or something... I have heard that is "bad" for your engine, whatever "bad" means. I DO know for a fact that civics blow their 1.6 litre engines with prolonged racing on the funny gas (2 acquiantaces). Ofcourse DMS are not civics, but the engine still "wears" out faster. Am I still too vague, is everybody who I talk to fibbin on me? lol.

Re: Going faster in a non-turbo car?

Well theres one main thing. Race engines sure don't last nearly as long as street ones. People with track cars will do almost anything to drop their timeslips, even if its running 30psi and nitrous... which wouldn't be healthy on reliability. For the street though, having nitrous for your runs isn't going to blow anything up, but every mod wears the motor in my book.

Re: Going faster in a non-turbo car?

yep ashah's right... its because with the nitrous entering the motor it is already mixed with gas so its not as big of a shock to the motor. much safer and much better!
