pcv disable w/ catchcan

looking into installing RRE catch can on my 2g but need a better understanding of why you can only disable the PCV off the street. RRE site says for offroad applications you have the option of disabling the PCV. why cant you do this for the street? if its for smog bullshit than i dont care but if it fucks with your normal driving conditions than i do. also they say disabling the PCV valve gives you twice the crankcase ventalation while under boost... but waht does that mean for performance or durability?

Re: pcv disable w/ catchcan

they say for off road use only to cover their own ass...it wont hurt anything, it will help keep oil from running into the intake pipe and eventually into the turbo. you wont even be able to notice it is on, it doesnt make your car run any different.

Re: pcv disable w/ catchcan

I don't believe what you are asking about is the PVC valve... it is the hose coming off of the pssngr side of the valve cover right? If that is the one you are asking about.... you can either use a fuel filter inline or just run a longer tube down under the engine... I tried the filter but it plugged up after about 2 weeks and the pressure popped out my oil dipstick... I had the oil collecting in the SMIC and some was making it all the way into the intake manifold causing carboning on the throttle plate and such.... just do the catch can or run it down under the engine... If anyone has a problem with the oil dripping on the ground..... please!!! just look under alot of older FORDS and you will see oil spots from the bad rear seal most of the 302's have!!!!! hee hee hee

Re: pcv disable w/ catchcan

He IS asking about the PCV elimination. It is common, and most are pleased with the results.

Re: pcv disable w/ catchcan

OH OK wasn't sure... I thought the PCV valve/hose went from the valve cover to the intake manifold.........GSTCLIPSE said..."help keep oil from running into the intake pipe and eventually into the turbo".... just thought he was talkin about the vent hose off the side of valve cover......

Venting the valve cover doesn't cause a vacuum leak. There are two ports on the valve cover to vent crankcase pressure. In stock form one runs down to the intake pipe before the turbo. (This is the line most people replace with a breather filter) and the second connects through the PCV valve to the intake manifold. The RRE catch can has two ports on it, one for each of the vents on the valve cover. Now to avoid a vacuum leak at the manifold when you disable the PCV valve you have to plug the port in the intake manifold the valve connected too.

Hope that helps
