Unhappy 93 rs stalls

When I come to a stop my car starts to jerk really bad. if i completely stop it will shut off. it usually does it around 30 mph, and only does it after the car has been running for a while. if i floor it after it starts to do that its really sluggish, but then it will all of a sudden shift really hard into second and then its ok. it only does it in drive and reverse. What could it be??? [color=skyblue]

I don't know if you ever got your problem solved, but it sounds like the TCC solenoid. Torque Converter Clutch solenoid. Your TC has a clutch (also called a lock-up converter) that very commonly goes bad on Cavaliers. A new one at the auto parts store is about $25 and it's a pretty basic remove the old one, plug in the new one proposition. You can unplug the bad solenoid until you can replace it, but doing this for a prolonged time (a few months) will eventually burn up your tranny. These solenoids are known for only showing problems after long drives at highway speeds. What happens is the solenoid doesn't let the clutch on the TC unlock so it's like not putting in the clutch on a manual transmission as you come to a stop. It bucks and jerks like crazy and then dies. Usually, it resets itself when you restart the car. Hope that helps.

Re: 93 rs stalls

Sounds like you all have had the same problem that I have had - it is the lock out Solenoid. Costs 250 in our area to replace. If you look under the car on the transmission there is a plug with a couple of wires coming out of it. Mine on a 93 was right up in the front. Just unplug it, will run fine - has for several years. What happens is that when your are on the highway it doesn't lock up and drop your rpms down about 500 or so. That's the quick fix and unless you are doing lots of hwy driving you will probably never know the difference.
It won't hurt anything - being unplugged - keeps you from stalling out at intersections!
