Question Blower Fan Problem

My 1996 Tahoe blower fan only works on high speed. I have been told that the fan relay is bad. Is this true or is the blower itself bad? If so, where is this relay located and is it easy to replace?

Re: Blower Fan Problem

If your fan only works on High, most likely your fan relay and fan blower motor is working fine. You may have a resistor problem, this is the part that has resistors to control the fan speed when you switch to any other setting besides High. Or you may also have a problem with the A/C Control Panel. They have a tendency to short out. You really need a manual with a wiring diagram and a multimeter to trace down wires. Hope this helps -Chris

I had the same problem mine started out only working on low and high and then just high. I replaced the motor and the resistor and everything worked fine. The resistor is located inside the glove box on top of the air box you need small hands for that job and a case of beer. i think the resistor was $13.00 from chevy
