'95 Blazer...Fuel Pump?

Well Just bought a '95 Blazer and the previous owners have replaced the fuel pump not too long ago, but it still seems to me that there is a problem. When I start the car i have to put it in the "on" position for a couple seconds so that the pump can send some fuel to the engine, then I start it. Now, i'm not all that automotive literate so, I don't know all the tech terms. I don't know if this is normal for the blazer or what. If you know how to combat this problem, any input is welcome. thanks.

My 93´works on same way, for two seconds I can her the fuel pump working; in this model is normal even a little gas smell, i´ve read on this forum that fuel line needs at least 62 PSI to work fine, normally if fuel regulator works ok, the start event goes inmediatly. check fuel regulator, on CPI type is at "spider" or injector assembly.

You might try replacing the fuel filter before you get into any costly repairs. They usually run about $10. If the filter is partially clogged you might eliminate the problem by replacing it.

Ok, first off, will it start right up if you don't prime the system? Do you have to wait till it primes?

Will it take a while to start if you don't?

Also, "a little" gas smell is completely unacceptable and is NOT normal with these trucks if it is occuring in your situation.

We need more information, you never really told us what your problem was.

Sorry, I don't know what prime means, but if it means having to wait till the pump gets gas flowing then yes i have to wait for it to prime. If I try to just turn it over right away, sometimes it starts automatically, but it sounds like it's gunna die, like there is no gas getting to it, but then it corrects it self and runs fine. Other times if i try to start it "right away" it will not turn over, because no gas is getting to it. Which leads me to what i need to know. The pump is obviously not getting the gas to the engine right away. Would i need a stronger or faster pump, or some kind of new ignition parts or what? The only thing i need to know is if there is any way to get the blazer to start on a second like new cars, or will it be the routine of putting it to the on position for a couple seconds to get the pump flowing the gas, then turning the engine over. I am not that great of an explainer at times, so i hoped that helped. Thanx

Ok,

first off, "turn over" means that the engine will try to start, but will not fire and start.

First thing I would do is have a new fuel filter installed.

Second, you will need to take off the upper plenum and have a look to see if you CPI injector is leaking or if the internal fuel line kit has ruptured.

First, BlazerLT, chill out a little, the man's got a problem. I'm thinking fuel pressure regulator but do take the plenum off and check all your lines, and look at your throttle body. Good luck.

I would start with a fuel filter and go from there.

I keep hearing about a strainer/filter inside the gas tank that could cause sporadic stalling etc. Is there such an animal?

You always replace the fuel filter firtst.

So are you saying there is a filter/strainer inside the tank?

they are two completely different things.

The strainer is part of the sending unit in the tank whereas the fuel filter I believe is along the drivers side frame.

Replace the fuel filter first before you start ripping the fuel tank apart.

Fuel filter is the thing that usually gets clogged. I believe you unplug the wiring from the sending unit and then crank it a few times to release the pressure. All you need is two of the same wrenches and a pan to catch gasoline.
