need advice......92' 318i 4-door

i have a 92' 318i 4 door sedan and was wondering from what year to what engine can i use to swap the one i have. i'm a bit confused. some say any E30, some say E36. anyone know the right answer? thanks in advance for your help.

That sounds like an e36. Here's an easy test. Are your headlights round and in 4 separate pieces? If yes, then you have an e30 otherwise, it's an e36.
