CARB help please? Anyone?

I have an 84 VT700 that runs like garbage. It runs decent from 4000 -8000 rpms but misses at idle and has litterally no response off idle. I have to feather it up to get it to run at all. I pulled the tank to look at the carbs, and noticed that during this peroid of unresponsive engine rpm that the slides are fluttering, BADLY. I pulled the covers on the carbs to look at the diaphrams and they appear to be complete. If I try and steady the slides, it seems to smooth out some.

I am not a top notch bike tech, but have alot of experience on cars and other equipment.

I have an MPEG of the carbs while the bike is running if anyone could help out, I would be glad to send it to them. (about 4.3 megs)

Carbs appear to be clean, and the gas in the tank didnt smell bad. Carbs seems to be getting enough fuel and I dont have an obstruction in the air box/filter/intake.

Can anyone help at all? Shots in the dark are well aprrecaited.

Has anyone else done any work on this bike? It almost sounds like one of the jets is wrong with the range of RPMs where it doesn't run well. Possibly the pilot jet? (I forget things, so don't mind me if I sound like a dumbass here... I just rebuilt carbs for the first time last year)

If you are saying something like "I think the gas is good" I would suggest buying Gumout concentrated carb cleaner and dumping that in the tank and running it for a tank and put in good gas. Could just be your idle jets are alittle plugged or something. I am just guessing. I have only rebuilt t wo cycle carbs of the same bike soooo........

easiest fix to make sure they are right, spend the money, get the rebuild kits and rebuild them. Dump that gas, get rid of it and get fresh. Also, adter rebuilding install the cheapo in line fuel filters for lawn mowers right before the newly cleaned out carbs. For my 81 Yamaha XS650, rebuilding them was the only thing that worked, for about 40 bucks later (for both carbs together, with new floats that were 10 bucks a piece and not a part of the kit) it runs like crazy (knock on wood). We tried cleaning them and cleaning them and it didnt work. For about 12 bucks a kit, it was worth it. The filter makes me feel better too. Usually in the kits htey give you knew jets and all kinds of fun pieces, and new usually beats what you think is clean. Also, check your tank for debris, mine was disgusting, so it had to be pressure washed out and then we baked it in the oven to get rid of the moisture, yes I said bake in the oven, it worked.

completely out of the box suggestion. my rodeo ute had a similar problem. it wouldn't run until 3000rpm (redline at 6000). it would shudder and felt like only 2 cylinders were firing (4 cyl motor). thought it was the carbs but it turned out to be a crack in the headers causing a lack of backpressure required at low revs.

just a suggestion because i know how frustrating faults can be
