Unhappy ignition problems with '85 gts - cutting out

Hey guys,

I'm not an idiot when it comes to cars. I just want some confirmation or some ideas here. My Celica is cutting out...the check engine light comes on. I've checked the codes. It says igniter, etc. I've replaced the ignition coil, the iginition module and the pickup coil. The only thing as far as I know that's left is the ECM. Anybody have any other ideas? It's hit and miss. Some days it won't stumble at all and then others it'll stall every time I come to a stop and then not start for a half an hour. Just looking for some opinions on what I should do here. Thanks in advance.

Bret.

Re: ignition problems with '85 gts - cutting out

I have an 85 GTS. There is a power transistor in the "igniter" that might be breaking down. It ain't cheap since one would have to replace the igniter not just the transistor. Mine just stopped without any warning.
One other possibility; the fuel pump (inside the gastank) will give almost the same symptoms...cutting out, won't start unless you wait, and some wierd trouble code(s) that don't appear to have anything to do with the fuel pump.
