first of all its a tach...second of all the highlighted red part towards the top of the tach is when your redline starts..

Re: redline?

yes my bad i realized after i posted that i spelled it wrong, but i kno how to read a tach, but on mine it has an adjustable marker for redline depending on the car it goes on. right now its set at 5500 and i was wondering if anyone knew for sure what that engine redlines at

Some of the GM tach's don't display a redline. My dad's bravada has a 7000rpm tach with no redline indicator, but it never touches the redline. I would guess around 6000

Stock 305? I'd put it lower, more around 4800-5000rpm. They weren't much for high end power.

Just go drive the truck, watch the tach... take a note when the motor stops pulling... make that your red line. That way you know to shift a bit after your peak power. So you're always in your power band.

Make sense?

Re: redline?

do a search online for the engine specs, or look in the service manual. it's always written down somewhere.

and 80's monte carlo with a 305 stock redlines at a laughable 4000rpm. so i guess your 305 should be similar to that one.

Re: redline?

nice...idea on where to find the redline...but PLEASE...don't try this at home!!!

put the truck in first and accelerate...DONT SHIFT...when everything overrevs and blows up...mark 200rpm b4 that... THATS YOUR REDLINE!!...
AGAIN
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME...

4000rpm is where i get my torque...i'm trying to figure a better launch though, mine tears the hell outta my tires but i haven't found a faster launch yet
