electrical short

i think i may have a short when i unplug my negative battery wire and connect a volt meter from the neg. battery terminal to the neg. battery cable i ge a votage reading of 4-6 volts only if radio battery wire is connected or i i turn on the headlight switch. whats the best way to find a short? please help

have someone inthe cab pull each fuse until the draw goes away. That will point you to roughly what it is that has a short. I had to do it to my work van not to long ago. Of course it doesn't help that my van has a VHF two way, a 800Mhz two way, and strobe lights on it.

shut everything down ,radio ,door shut, headlights off, if you have a hood light take the bulb out. then disconnect the neg then put a test light to the battery and clip the other end to the neg if you have a light you have a draw. you said something about your radio pull the fuse on it if the light goes out. put your radio on an acc. power so when you turn the key on the radio is on.

I get a draw only with the radio witch does have a memory, if i turn on my headlight switch and even igntion switch. igntion switch is new, radio is also.

I hav e the radio hooked up to turn on with my ignition switch on it does have a wire that goes to dirrect current for the memory. I have it ground to the body.I get the draw with the ignition switch off
