crx lights

i'm looking to buy a 88-91 crx but have a question about the cars. looking from crx to crx i've noticed that they have two different kinds of tail lights... the big bold ones

and the thinner ones

can you explain the differences between these two styles and which models they're on, etc. it'd be much appreciated!

Re: crx lights

hmmm, the one up top looks like it could be a european model by the license plate number. Maybe its a small difference between 88-89 and 90-91 crx's. I'm sure others will post more info than i can give ya

Re: crx lights

bottom one is the same size, it has a midwing over the top of the taillights, look close and you can see it, its black.

Re: crx lights

top is 88-89 and bottom is 90-91. There is not much difference between the two, just that 90-91 taillights look better. You can swap taillights between the two if you wish to do so.

You left out a few details, 90/91's have rounded top guage cluster housing while the 88/89's are square-ish, 90/91's front bumper signals only have amber covering the bulbs while 88/89's have amber lenses(meaning it costs nothng to convert 90/91 bumper signals to clear) , 90/91's corner signals are mounted with a single internal screw while 88/89's have 2 outer screws on the amber part of the lense(90/91 signals are less likely to get stolen), and finally 90/91 seatbelts are mounted on the door rather than on the interior body, one thing about 90/91's I never liked.

One thing really cool about the 88/89's is the center peice to the tail lights have extra bulb mounts in them so if you wanted, you could add an extra set of lights, I did my friends using brake bulbs and then splicing them into the brakelight wires.

God, I'm such a CRX geek..

Yeah, unfortunaly we never got the back seats. But what sucks is that if we order jdm ones, we get pulled over. I know cause my friend had one in his for maybe 5 days.

Re: crx lights

Actually yeah there buddy. For some reason there isn't enough head room in the back for passengers to sit in and cops find it to be a little ackward. The cop told my friend that the car said 2 seater hatchback on the insurance papers and asked why he had seats in the back. He told him that he put them in awhile ago but the cop refused to let it go and told him he'd let him go if he takes them out or lets no one sit back there. My friend says that cop still follows him around to this day looking for it. LOL

Re: crx lights

so take it to the insurance company and have it put as a four seater, accually probably make the insurance lower. assuming he had the seatbelts and such.

Oh, I did not know he was talking about the WHOLE car, I thought he was just wondering about the taillights themselves. But yes Sir, you are correct about the whole car. But you did miss one big thing! USDM 90-91 CRX Si comes with rear disk brakes, not sure if that accounts for EDM CRXs as well..
