Thumbs down XJ6 starting problem

I have a 1988 XJ6 which starts and runs ok but when you turn it off it will not restart until it cools down which is about 3 hours. The engine will turn over, but it will not fire. Hope somebody has an idea on this one because I don't always want to stay in one place for 3 hours. Also it is hard to make a fast getaway after plundering a village.

Thanks, Hager

Re: XJ6 starting problem

Hi, check for a couple of things ..
(1) after it runs ok and u stop it. Check for a distinct fuel pump buzz (88 brits) are usually mounted in front of the left rear tyre.

(2) check surface assembly of coil for heat. Try this, though very unconventional it sure does work. Keep a bottle of water and a nice soaking rag with you. Cover wet rag around coil...Go about your normal chore and see if you get the symptoms.

(3)Make the rag into a envelope and pour some sand into it. then take that and nicely wrap it around your coil leave this soaking.

(4) when symptom occurs, detatch the hight tension lead from distributer side, crank engine and see if there are evenly distibuted blueand yellowish sparks.
