Leaking transmission fluid...gaining oil?
I think I have seen this topic in the forum before but cannot locate the info now.
I have a 1993 Explorer XLT that is losing large amounts of transmission fluid. Sometimes you can see where it has leaked, especially after having driven it for a long distance but often times not. While I am losing transmission fluid, it seems I am gaining oil. Is it possible that some of the transmission fluid is getting into the oil? If so how or where and how can it be fixed? |

Quote:
The problem you have Is the vacume modulator cost about $25.00 and Is fairly easy to put on.This Is on the right side of the transmission about halfway back.Goodluck,Greg |

Re: Leaking transmission fluid...gaining oil?
the radiator has nothing to do with the engine oil. coolant would be mixing with the transmission fluid not transmission fluid mixing with the oil. if you have a leak in the radiator that leaks into the tranny you can kiss that tranny goodbye. fortunatley you aren't having that problem. it sounds like a rear main seal problem insted of a radiator issue. i don't know how a vacuum modulator could be the culprit either since that controls shifting in the tranny. but im not a tranny guy. the AEOD tranny is a peice of junk. have you checked your pan gasket? when are you checking your oil? startup or after its been run?

Re: Leaking transmission fluid...gaining oil?
Well.... did you check your trasmission fluid when the engine is running? because that's the only and the correct way to check transmission oil. If you check while the engine is not running it would indicated low. So the best way to check the fluid when engine at normal tempature, flat surface.

i would check the modulator valve also with the vacume line that runs to it it might be drawing the fluid through it.
