Rock setup???

ok, i have been reading this forum for a while now as well as looking other places on the web. I was looking to setup a nice clear sounding system in my car (96 Cougar), i mainly listen to rock. Im going to order an Alpine CDA-9831 or 33 off ebay when i get around to it. But i have questions as to what to order after that.

On this forum everyone likes how LOUD their system is but i dont think for rock that would be to great. I listen to mostly classic rock and new rock and ill play rap when my friends are in the car cause most of them hate rock. They have systems in their car and well their nice and loud and all bass and suck to play rock on. What speakers/amp/subs should i get to put in my car.

The stock speakers are 5x7 but you can fit bigger in the rear 1/4 panel with a little effor. I have some money to spend id say no more then 800-1000 but thats the most i would really want to spend and would much rather spend less(of course).

I was thinking Infinity components for my doors and pioneer 6x9's for the rear(my friend has them and they sound pretty good). But i really dont know much and havent heard that many products.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

looks like we are in the same boat, i like alot of the punk and rock and that type of stuff.

what i reccomend is a set of nice front components amped, some real nice ones like focals or cdt's, give them about 150 watts a side, and then one oz audio matrix elite 12, i'm gonna be ordering one soon off ebay probly, and have heard from many many reputable sources to be extremely similar to the IDMAX. get around 400-500 watts to give to that oz 12 in a well made box, and you will be set....

you will be able to stay under 1000$

edit: if i know which car you're talkin about, the cougar isn't that big, so i don't think that you will need rear fill, just take the rear stock speakers out so that the sub will be heard better in the cabin

Re: Rock setup???

I was looking at the Elemental Designs website and I was pretty impressed with the prices. I was wondering if i were to purchase their component system or even a complete audio package would it work well for me. Or would the sound quality be more towards rap the rock

Re: Rock setup???

Honestly as far as speakers go. I would run all CDT a pair of components for the front. with a good 100x2 feeding them from a nine.2 over at ed. I would get either the HDsub from CDT, or the 2 12kv2 combo at ED. ED is a must for amps, IMO price wise. Sound quality is sound quality for anything. There is no such thing as rap sound quality or rock sound quality. One of the complete sound systems would be fine... The bigger the better IMO. I would go sealed boxes. make sure you set all the gains right and adjust the bass to blend properly

i think an oz audio matrix elite would beat those other subs, and they are like 160$ on ebay.

Would this be the OZ sub in question?

I have a set of CDT components in kickpods and a JL 8W3 molded into each door, I get a pretty good bit of bass out of that set up

i think with this setup you would be very happy, but i dunno if you could take on the install work involved, and with one oz 12 is probly equal in price to 2 8w3's. and will probly play a little lower.

Re: Rock setup???

Thanks for all of the helpful replys. I have a question as to the last reply though are you saying that 2 8w3's are better than the oz 12. Because i was just about to put in bids on the oz 12 and a CDA-9831.
