2001 suburban power steering

While pulling out of a parking spot today, my power steering failed in my 2001 suburban. while making the turn I went all the way to the stop (hard all the way right). when I straightened up I had no power steering. the fluid level is good. I that my power steering pump had failed. the shaft of the pump was snappped in two. I replaced the pump and it failed after one day of use, same problem. The second part was a an aftermarket rebuild. I am hesitant to throw another one in until I am convinced that all else is working right. Has anybody experienced this problem and does anyone have some troubleshooting advice? Also what is the procedure to flush out the steering gear box?
Thanks

Don
