pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
I am running a ZC DOHC and I found a good price for a PG7 ECU, right now i am running a pm6 ECU and I was wondering if the PG7 would imporve anything about my car.
I talked to someone today who told me that they had a 9000 RPM redline on their ZC swap and I was wondering if he was BSIng me or if I could do that with this ECU or maybe he had a different ECU but I am not sure. Also, what do you think would be a good price for a PG7 ECU. Thank you in advance

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
ok here is the deal... PG7- 7.2k rpm redline
PM6 6.5k rpm redline The pg7 is a little richer in fuel all around and the ignition is a little fatter also. the PM6 is well a stock Si ecu you would be better off (i know cuz i have done this) using a 90-91 PM6 with a PM7 chip (JDM) it will be the exact same as a JDM PM7 that is the better way to go and the reason i say this is because with my pg7 and my 90-91 pm6 (stock) i couldnt really tell the difference besides the redline but with the JDM PM7 code in my PM6 it made a HUGE improvement over the stock PM6 if you would like i can supply a JDM STOCK PM7 chip if u have a 90-91 PM6.. its fairly easy to install

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
If he has a stock dohc zc he was fucking with you. The b16a has a redline of 8200 (stock, of course) and unless that guy has heavily modded his zc he is pulling your leg.

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
i've said it before and i'll say it again.
stock PM6 rev limit is 7413 rpm, verified many times by a rom dump. PG7 is somewhere around 75-7700, no rom dumps have been made that are readable by readily available editors, so the actual rev limit is unknown. in my personal experience, a PG7 will run a DOHC ZC or a SOHC VTEC engine better than a stock PM6, but a modded PM6 running PM7 maps would indeed be the best. |

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
Yes the PG7 will work with the stock harness. I have both ECU's. The PG7 is in my car and the PM6 is going to be chipped for boost. Check out PGMFI.org for more info on chip burning / map editing.

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
Aslo the PG7 doesn't bolt in but you can just have it held in under the cover. The PM7 bolts right in.

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
..its pretty simple to swap the pg7 board/guts into the pm6 case... or just cut one of the legs on the pg7 off..

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
So the PG7 will give me a slightly higher red line, and slightly better performance, but if i chip the pm6 with the pm7 maps will it still increase the red line?

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
if you chip your ECU, it doesnt matter what maps yout put in it, you can set the rev limit to whatever you want. you could keep the stock maps and set your rev limit to 12,000 rpm if you felt like it.

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
Would a ZC be able to go to 8k RPM? Right now its hitting the rev limiter at about 7200-7400. I don't want to damage my engine though, just an idea to get a little more out of each gear.

Re: pg7 up from a pm6 worth it?
theoretically, a d series bottom end can handle 8,000 rpm, although not on a daily basis. Just like the b series, the weakness is in the valve train, not the bottom end. You are more likely to break a retainer, keeper, or bind a valve springl than you are to throw a rod from revving too high. Also, spun bearings can result from overrev.
7500 is about the limit for daily driven, stock component d series engine, especially since without head modification and larger cams, all d series engines peak horsepower output is below 6800 rpms. |
