I've a 93 Tercel in good condition (except one problem, will explain below) for sale for $499. It's rust-free, looks great in and out, new front brake, new battery, new spark plugs, etc. , low mileage at 165K, single-owner. I'm in Ottawa, Canada.
The car is worth US$1795 based on the Kelly's Blue book.
The problem I have with it is that it has difficulty starting and the car shakes when it stops at red lights, and we can't find out why?!
We've sent it to three garages, including Toyota as well as a trusted independent mechanics to check. They both say all parts of the car checked out fine, and the car should still last for a good few years. But none can identify EXACTLY why it has difficulty starting. Based on successive elimination, Toyota suspected the engine is clogged.
After learning more about Tercel from auto-forums like this one, it seems that my car may need an engine swap (the worst case), or something smaller (injector change, etc.) to make it great again. A compatible engine can be purchased from 'Back Yard Productions' for $450. For experienced Tercel turners, it can be of good value. My husband and I are not exactly the type that can check/fix cars ourselves, and we would hate to see it to go to a wreck shop.
What it means is this: For an experienced turner who buys our Tercel, in the event that the car DOES need an engine swap, you still spend less than $1000 to get a $1800 vehicle. If it is actually a smaller problem, it will even be more favorable to you.
Feel free to contact me directly at
