3.4 Stroker Kit and 84 Chevette Rear end

Hi - I bought a 1984 Chevette with a solid body and floor boards (very rare here in Michigan). It has the stock 1.6LT in it, the only option is the automatic tranny (has manual steering and manual breaks). I have a 2.8 that has been bored out to a 3.1 (just have to buy the pistons and valves). I was wondering about the 3.4 stroker crank - are they a worth while upgrade since I have to buy a new crank anyway (other then to say that I have a stroker). Where can I find one (with in a reasonable price, I'm a teacher and college student working on my masters degree)? I want to go all mechinical so its going to have a carb, and keeping the manual steering and breaks. I have a rebuild 700R4 so I can take advantage of the overdrive :-D

Antoher question is will the rear end hold. I've been told that it will hold a stock 350 (if you don't race all the time). If so I shouldn't have a problem with at 3.1/3.4 right?

Thanks
Richard

Re: 3.4 Stroker Kit and 84 Chevette Rear end

ok, what planet are u on? the 3.4 is bored, not stroked; it's got the same 3.31" stroke as the 3.1. (the 'vette pace car or gp turbo's 3.4 cranks are stronger than the 3.1's, tho.) 700r4? behind a 3.4? are u nuts? the -180'd be enuf, the -200-4r _sure_ is. so's the stock 10-bolt.

i thought that 2.8's and 3.1's were identical blocks with the difference being the size of the multiport or heads.

2.8 & 3.1 differ only in stroke & head design in gen1; the gen 2 & 3 are rad different. the gen 1 3.4 (beretta indy pace car) was an aluminum block version with a 3.625" bore (v stock 3.5), with the 3.1's 3.31" crank.
