First Time at the Track

Yesterday, KrNxRaCeR00 and I made it out the Pacific Raceways. I think we might have picked one of the worst days to go, not because it was busy, but because of the conditions.

Another driver out there had a military type thermometer and it read 91 degrees w/ a 4mph wind...that's hot for WA.

A lot of people were complaining about running slower than usual. I saw a mustang GT running 15.3-15.4's. KrNxRaCeR00 and his type-r didn't break into the 14's, and I was hanging at mid 15's all day.

I got 9 runs in overall and had a blast. My avg. r/t was around .510 and my avg. 60' time was about 2.57....sigh. Obviously my launching is my problem. My trap MPH averaged out around 92mph, so I should've been in the 14's....oh well. My last run of the day was my best:

R/T .513
60' 2.404
330 6.410
1/8 9.760
MPH 72.52
1000 12.732
1/4 15.22
MPH 92.03

So I definately need to work on a lot of things, but all in all I had a great time.

Re: First Time at the Track

Well, at least you got your first time out of hte way.

I would concentrate on the launch and the shifting.
Don't get hung up on reaction, it does not factor into your ET. It only matters as far as beating the other guy to the end of the track.

2.5s are not horrible for a first time in a FWD car.
What tires (size/type) and pressure were you running?

I'm not positive on the size of the tire, but they're yokohama's on my stock rims. I think I was running about 31psi.

Re: First Time at the Track

.... I would try 26 psi ... then 23 ... then 20.
One of those will hook up much better than 31 psi.

Re: First Time at the Track

yea...I knew I had to let out some air, but I wasn't sure what would be the ideal amount. Thanks!

Re: First Time at the Track

I agree with Jekyl. Lower the tire pressure a little.

Re: First Time at the Track

Thanks for posting your times. Your mph is illustrative of high 14's. I can't even begin to tell you how much shit I got on another forum for running 2.3 sec. 60' in my former Z28 (With and without drag radials). Most people don't do that well at the track. I think alot of people BS.

Yea...driving, especially launching, really isn't easy at the track. And I'm sure the people who DO post good time have either had a lot of practice, or like you said, are BSing

Practice helps alot. The first time I went to the track I got 2.5-2.7 60's.

Re: First Time at the Track

2000LS1Z28, people were probably getting on you because you have RWD and people are jerks.

2.3's for a FWD car is typical since when they launch the weight trasnfer off of the power wheels ... you and I have RWD so the weight is going to the power wheels providing better traction.
In the MR2 would, 1.9-2.1s are typical.

If an MR2er hits 2.3s ... they either:
1. spun really bad
2. bogged like hell (boost lag)
3. way too much tire pressure (see #1)

I suspect you were in the same boat.

Wow i think i'm lucky. With my shitty 205's on my car i got 2.2 60' times.
I dont think 92mph will net a 14 second e.t.
On 1 run i got a 92.93mph and still only ran a 15.10 with a 2.3 60' i got that time. But then again my car DIES top end so maybe with a better 60' you can net a better mph.

I never saw his slips, but I think he averaged out around 15.2 all day. He seemed pretty disappointed with his launches.

Who knows, him being a moderator and all, maybe he'll actually COME ONLINE and post some times...

Yeah I believe you are right. I think the LS1 powered F bodies are really hard to launch, especially due to their torque. The stock suspension doesn't lend itself to transferring weight that well either. I didn't touch the suspension that much. Honestly this Evo makes things a whole lot easier, and I find that most people at the track run 2.3-2.6 sec. 60' wise, so I outright kill them out of the hole. I think AWD is probably the only setup that will work for me, and I still need more practice with it (Just hope the stage one clutch holds up).

Re: First Time at the Track

I'm more or less impressed with your reaction times then anything. Most poeple, definately not me, are consistently hitting .5's their first time at the track.

All I ever managed with the S-10 the first time at the track was 2.3 & 2.4 60ft times as well so no big deal, you'll be able to bring it down sooner or later.
