alright, somebody has to have some kind of answer for me. I have had my car for three years, it is a 95 pontiac ga. About half way through i started noticing some problems when i start the car. After about five minutes, after the automatic choke shuts off the car wants to die but the computer adjusts the throttle and keeps it going. If I put the car in drive before it corrects itself, it will die while I drive away, only when its cold. I have done alot to my motor since it started (motor work) and it did the same thing the first time i fired it up. The only thing that I haven't touched at all is the fuel system and thats next. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be. Its a common prob but most people say that they got rid of there ga when this started to happen. Any answers would be appreciated, Thanx!

Remove and clean the throttle body including the idle air controller. These get very carboned up and often will cause problems you describe. This is relatively simple to do and should cure the problem. Just make absolutely certain that the idle air control motor and the throttle body are totally dry from the carb cleaner before you reinstall them and start the car.

I did that while i had the motor apart. If the idle air controller was bad it would code, wouldn't it. The car has never coded and i have a new computer in it with a chip that is programed for all the motor up grades. The idle air control, coil packs and fuel system are the only things that haven't been touched yet. The problems that i am having were present even before i did anything to the motor and are getting worse now. Any other suggestions would be great, thanx.

The IAC can give you problems without showing a code in the computer. It will work adequately without the computer sensing a problem. Most idling problems on these newer cars are related to this controller. Also check the coil packs to insure they are working properly sometimes you may get a weak spark that is causing a problem. Finally, when you put the new computer in the car did you do the idle learn procedure as outlined in the manual. On many of the OBD II computers you must do this before they will idle correctly. Don't know if this will help but thought I'd give you a couple more ideas on where to look.

Also what about the spark plugs? Have you had the spark plugs and wires checked? My car did the same thing when I had a bad spark plug.

I will replace the iac valve. I ohmed out the coil packs and they ohmed fine. i will do a spark test though. I didnt do a certain procedure when i installed the new computer. the problem was present even after the computer. No better no worse. As far as the spark plugs. I have no wires, coil packs and a cover that delivers directs spark. the plugs are ngks, because of the way my car is set up, i have to run a plug that is colder than factory. Thanx for the advise, i will check these things and let u know how i come out.
