scrathbuilding a baja truck

Im starting out with the Revell? Ford F-150. So far, ive sanded down all trim, door handles, attached the rear fenders and lost the truck bed. Then glued hood shot and added front grill. Its only in the putty/primer stages right now. lots of work ahead of me... heres the pic of the truck so far.

Im gonna turn this

and this

into something along the lines of this

Wish me luck.

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

looks like a awesome project!

fore the engine... some teams have the engine behind the seats and others have the engine in front. it is up to you.
but i think the one at the pick has it in the front but they have placed it a bit furder back in the car to get 50/50 in weight.

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

this should be interesting. This is going to be one where the body comes off like nascar kits? As for the suspension, dump the IFS, and use the solid I-Beam front end off of the AMT 1990's F-150 kits. I'm assuming you're going with a 2wd truck?

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

Cool. What kinda engine are you using? Is this going to be a weekend fun truck? Or, are you going to paint it and stick sponsorship decals on it?

Basically the same as NASCAR. I'm still looking into what I want to do. 2wd would be easy, but most baja has 4wd... so im not sure. I'm still sourcing parts and theres a big car show / swap meet this sunday. I'm hoping to pick up some things. As for suspension, I have a IFS started, but if it gets hard to do it, i'll switch over to I-beam.

I had a whole race engine out of a SCCA TransAm. I know, I know... chevy in a ford...oh well, its only filling in a gap until i find something more suitable, if I find something. might make a few stops to some sites. Not sure about the paint yet. I could leave it white and make decal from my computer. i'll figure it out later. I'm still looking

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

Chevy dominates them all! But a nice 460Cobra Jet ford with two humoungus turbos would work nicely too.

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

ore a engine from a monster truck. i think it would suit it to.... but then you have a bug catcher to deal with. but those engines have about 1600 hp
you can get those engines out from any monster truck on the market.

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

youd technically have to use a ford intake. Because on a ford intake the distributor hole and the water hose hole are right next to each other. In the bowties case, the distributor and water hose hole are on other sides of the intake. But, that could work i suppose.

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

on my moms ford ranger(V6) the dist, is way in back. Its the same with a few other trucks I know. All i did was glue it to the back. Although today i did win a NASCAR model at the contest, so that kit is being parted for this build. Some very nice things that will help me tremendously. I also hve a guy im waiting on for the tires and rims.

Re: scrathbuilding a baja truck

I was reading in one of my old model magazines about someone making a rollcage out of brass by soldering them. I had a few peices lying around and tried to solder them with no luck. Has anyone done this?
