Question Clutch

I bled my clutch hydraulic system today the procedure in hanes didnt work as writen while i held my clutch down and someone released the bleeder valve to let the air out and then retightened it then let my foot off the clutch it stayed to the floor. I had to pull it up with my hand to get it back up i did this several times with the same results im sure there's no air in the system. I also had a hard time adjusting my clutch pedal freeplay i cant seem to get it right could i have a bad master cylinder or slave??? Is there a way to test the master cylinder or slave to tell if there bad or are the symptoms im describing enough???

do this: tighten up the bleeder valve and take the cap off the clutch fluid cylinder(the master cylinder) . than grab the cluch pedal and start pushing it with your hand until it "pump up" and starts going up itself. doing this a few times will not solve your problem. u got to press at least 50-100 times. if after that , your pedal is still down than you will need to change your master cylinder. about 75 bucks it was for my first laser....

nub transmission question here.

is "clutch pedal freeplay" how far you press your clutch in before it hits the sweetspot so you can change gears?

i have to press my clutch in almost down to the floor(little over 3/4 way dow) before it will let me put it in gear.

my 93 Talon is the first manual transmission car i have owned so i dont know crap about the tranny(i have driven many but ive never had this problem before)

No clutch freeplay is how far it goes down before you feel resistance. It shouldnt be more then a quarter of an inch or else you have to ajust it. And with stock clutches you do have to push it down all the way now if you get a sports clutch you can speed shit with the clutch almost not pushed in at all.

just about every manual tranny vehicle ive driven, the shift spot has been on the top of the clutch right as you start pressing it down.

is my cars clutch giving or is it a normal thing with DSMs. I've heard horror stories about DSM manual trannies being pretty shitty

Yours might be messed up not sure. On mine when i drive it i push the clutch down anyways just to be sure so i dont grind my gears but my spot is probably a little less then half way so yeah yours might be messed up.

The clutch pedal freeplay is how far you can push in the clutch without feeling any resistance. When adjusted right it should be about a 1/2 inch or so try taking a ruler and measure this also the pedal height should be around 7 inches or so. Mines way off not sure why i have a 6 inch clutch pedal height with about 2 inches or more of freeplay. So did i bleed the clutch wrong or is that how i see if my master cylinder is bad???

Also i got a little confussed with your answer i mean the clutch comes up and down ok when im not bleeding the clutch it only happened after i pumped it up and held it to the floor during bleeding it. After the valve was shut i took my foot of the clutch and thats when it was stuck to the floor. I pulled it up with my hand once then it was sorta like it should be juss felt way out of adjustment after that. Tried adjusting freeplay and had it out as much as i could and i still had over 2 inches of freeplay. Should i juss replace the master cylinder and slave and see what happens i got the money i just wanna a quick fix and dont wanna be trying to figure this out for a long time so what should i do re-bleed it like you said and try that or should i say screw it all and replace everything????

I also changed my tranny fluid but im questioning what i used it doesnt seem right. After i drained the nasty junk that was in there i ran up to autozone for some gear oil i was recommended by someone that works there to use pennzoil synchromesh manual transmission fluid instead b/c its non corrosive to brass synchros. But im worried because this stuff has no viscosity rating and the stuff like water and i dont know if i should use it or not. If not what other products could i use (except for redline i cant find it anywhere)??? Could this be why im having trouble with the clutch at points it would grind like mad then i made an adjustment and it would shift real smooth but then started acting up again. This stuffs pissin me off because i need my car for next monday when school starts. i also have to find a damn caliper mounting bracket because the threads are dicked up (damn ppl that had it before me) and its gonna be a pain to find one to work with my abs system.
