Aftermarket cruise control???
I have a 2001 tacoma and it did not come with cruise control. I'd like to get it but have concerns about whether it would be worth it or a mistake or what. Anybody heard anything, bad or good, about the aftermarket cruise?
Anything you might have to say would be something more than I know... |

Re: Aftermarket cruise control???
I bought a used '02 Tacoma 4WD 4 cyl. that came with an aftermarket cruise control. It's definitely been hit and miss. It doesn't always work in that when I push the button that says "set" it doesn't always set. I would say it works on command 75 percent of the time and I can usually get it going the other 25 percent of the time by repeatedly pressing the button. Once it does come on and holds speed it usually works great. Occasionally when I hit a sizable bump in the road it shuts down but "resume" always work in that situation. I hate not having cruise so this is good enough for me. It's not so bad that I'm willing to pay to get a new one or this one looked at. Plus, I'm sure there are plenty of companies that will install a cruise control and they might work better...or worse. Good luck.

Re: Aftermarket cruise control???
Check with your Toyota dealer. They usually have some Toyota cruise control units for current model years. It may be possible for them to order one for your 2001 if they don't have one in stock. Their units are made for Toyota and has Toyota's name on the package.
