engine to be replaced

My 18 year old blew the engine out of his 2000 S10. I am going to buy a rebuilt one, but I want him to take out the old and put in the new. What would be the best manual? diagram? specifications? that he could get to do this basically on his own. I really dont like the idea of a trial and error method (especially with the cost of the new engine), so he needs all the help he can get.

If it's a 4x4 you might want a mechanic friend around to help out. They can be a real pain, even for experenced backyard mechanics
