Which Golf is right for me?
I want to buy a golf, but i dont know which one i want. I want 2 doors, not a GTI (insurance is more), a VR6, and a manual transmission. Which years/trim level(s) has all of those?
Also, does anyone here have a turboed VR6? I was thinking of a Garrett T35 or T4 turbo with a spearco intercooler. I am looking to make 250 reliable, daily driven hp, but i dont want high end drop off, or turbo lag. Thanks. |

Re: Which Golf is right for me?
Quick answer - NONE.
You can't have a two-door non-GTI with a VR6, they've never existed. Its also important to know what body style you're looking at - Golf III, Golf IV, etc. For the IIIs (1993-1999) there were 2.0 and VR6 GTIs. After 1999 for the new style, there were 1.8T and VR6 GTIs and 2.0L (and TDI?) 2-door Golfs. And if you're looking at a VR6, insurance cost shouldn't be a priority

Ok, i just changed my mind. I want a 2 dr, 1.8T GTI. They have 180 hp (vs. 200 for the VR6, and 115 for the GL) and the extra size/weight of the vr6 engine isnt worth 20 hp. So that's what i want now. I figured it wouldn't be that hard to squeeze another 70 hp out of it. Thanks for your help, im off to day dream. Mabye if your lucky, ill tell you all about what my plans are, but first, i gotta get the car :P

Re: Which Golf is right for me?
I wanted a mk4 1.8T GTI too ... but settled for a mk3 2.0 GL. And I'm happy I did, cars cost too much as it is, I'd hate to have spent any more money ... still wish I had a beater mk2 instead though
