1.9 DOHC zero clearance?

I have an extremely loud noise under my hood. I think it may be one of two or maybe even both: the timing chain needs to be replaced, some lifters need to be replaced.

Anyway what I need to know is whether or not the 1.9 DOHC engine is zero clearance or not.

Any replies would be very much appreciated.

Re: 1.9 DOHC zero clearance?

i've never heard of "zero clearance engine", what are you refering to?

last time i priced lifters i think it was about $160, but that was a while ago and not quite sure if that was the price. you may want to look in to a rebuilt(around $300) or junkyard head(as low as $50)

both the timing chain and lifter are heavily dependent on oil. how fast does your oil get dirty? what type of oil do you use? all oil changes on time every 3000miles? what state do you live in? (i would use a thicker oil in hotter areas)

Re: 1.9 DOHC zero clearance?

well what i was internetested in knowing was if my timing chain breaks whether my engine was done for or not... I found out that the ticking is actually caused by my timing chain tensioner not working properly. It is allowing slack in my timing chain which is just enough for the chain to hit on the top chain guide everytime the engine is at top dead center. And yeah i looked into lifters and the cheapest i found them was 25 a piece, luckily they are not the problem, because i would have just bought a used engine and put it in.
