Idiot lights to Gauges

I've got my handy dany 79' Monte Carlo w/ the 350. And one thing that really gets on my nerves is those damn idiot lights (temp.,, Oil pressure, battery). I was wondering if I took them out and put gauges in ther places, if it would work. If not how do i put the new sencers in there.

Peace

Re: Idiot lights to Gauges

If you can find a Monte/ El Camino instrument cluster with the gauges, , you can swap it in. The wiring harness should be the same, so you would just have to buy the appropriate oil and coolant senders and install them in place of the standard ones.

However, factory gauges are quite small and inaccurate. For the money and time, its MUCH better to get a good aftermarket trio of gauges. I prefer the mechanical type over the electric as the needles have a 270 degree sweep instead of an electric's 90 degree sweep.
I swapped factory gauges for idiot lights in my GTO since originality counts, but in everything else, I use aftermarket gauges.
