Question Upgrades Needed For More Boost?

What upgrades would i need to increase the stock boost on an sr20? I'm not sure how much i wanna up the boost since i don't really race it. But i would rather not buy a whole new fuel system, radiator, etc unless I have to. Also Im buying a better intercooler so would that need anything upgraded too?

Re: Upgrades Needed For More Boost?

a boost controller.

The stock turbo will be safe to 13-15 psi. After that, the turbo is past its efficiency range, and power increases will fall off and are not worth the risk of turbo damage. The engine should produce 230-250 RWHP at safe boost.

I already have one, just didn't hook it up yet. I know how all that works, but someone told me if i up the boost to like 10 psi then i would need new injectors, fuel rail, radiator, ignition system, etc. Is this true or no because its the sr not ka? i would think its built to safely be that high.

Re: Upgrades Needed For More Boost?

I'm pretty sure the SR can handle 14 psi on stock fuel system with the T28. If you upgrade the turbo you will probably need a better fuel system. Like they said, the engine should be fine up to 240whp.

Re: Upgrades Needed For More Boost?

fmic, boost controller, fuel pump.

motor can easily handle 18psi. stock t25 can only handle 12-14psi. 370cc injectors max out at around 12psi.

I thought the 370s could go farther than 12 psi on a little t25? I'll have to do the math on that one. But you are right, they can't hurt.

I'm getting an intercooler & boost controller and didn't wanna go much past 10 psi anyway. So it should all work out mostly stock then. Thanks.

Re: Upgrades Needed For More Boost?

Ok:
1) Nissan Uses A Rising Rate Fpr.... So If Its The Stock Turbo The Fuel System Will Match What Ever Boost You Add With The Proper Fuel.

2) Fuel Upgrades Are Only Needed When The Air Flow Is Increased (higher Cfm Turbo).

3) With The Fmic You Should Be Good As Long As You Are Not In A Hot Climate.... Then You Want To Look At A New Radiator To Counteract The Adverse Effects Of A Fmic.

4) A Fuel Pump Should Have Been Done With The Swap And I Can't Stress The Need For A Adjustable Fpr When A New High Volume Pump Is Added.

5) To Get The Most Power From The System Effeciently And Safely Get A Fuel Computer And Fine Tune It To The Afr's On The Dyno.

Re: Upgrades Needed For More Boost?

everything said above is true...

my friend took his sr20 on a dyno, and they said at 12.5 psi the injectors were at 100% ----- but i recently found out that it doesnt matter if they are at 100%, they may be maxed out but you can go beyond their means. it might be pushing the injectors a lil past their life but you really aren't hurting anything. i just got a techtom cmx 100 that tells me the duty cycle of the injectors, ill report back once i get a boost controller.

i've had no problems with the walbro fuel pump except for running rich (black smoke). once you get some kind of boost up ecu or an afc it should help out your gas mileage some.
