Volk rims

well i got bored tonight and started looking around for lightweight rims, i came across the brand name Volk... they make exactly what i'd be looking for (wide rims) but they look like they're pretty pricey... anyone had previous experience with these rims? good/bad? or any suggestions of brands with wide(10 inch for rear) that are light weight and decent looking?

volk is i heard a great brand. it is one of the few brands today that make a rwd-biased offset. ssr is another company that makes good wheels with a rwd-biased offset. those are the two companies i have heard most about from z guys.

yeah i have heard nothing but good things about volk. also racing hart makes a good wheel but they are very pricey, there 3-piece wheels start at around 1k each. i was lookin at volk wheels once upon a time ago but they were pretty pricey.

yeah me too... oh well, as long as they're light weight and work well, i'll shell out the cash... i was thinking somewhere around 3200 canadian for rims and rubber.. gotta love that bloody exchange rate. i've been looking at a few pictures and comparing sizes... i was thinking that 18's would look the best on a Z32... i'd say it fills out the wheel well nicely yet doesn't compromize the overall size of the wheel. the only thing i'd be worried about is damaging the rim because there's not enough wheel to protect the rim if i were to hit a rut or pothole... which seems impossible not to do every once in a while around this stupid town... now the only problem is to select the style... i'm liking the SF-winning... the F-Zero Kuwagata is pretty sweet looking... i don't know what it'd look like on the Z tho; there's also the Progressiv, looks good on an infiniti G35, not sure how it'd look on the Z either tho, would probably look good on a 350Z... better not think about that tho, might get some crazy idea into my head about dropping 30K for a new car..... anyway, here's the link i got some of the pics from...

i would go with 17's. i have 17's and they fill out my car nicely. i like the progressiv the best.

yeah i suppose 17" would be the most cost effective route... and would be a better ride, rubber would probably be less expensive as well... just doesn't have the 'bling' factor that the 18's do... i figure if i'm dropping any more than 2 grand on rims, they better be 18's, and make everyone go 'ooohhh' and 'ahhhh' when you roll up to the local high school.. .. no but seriously, i figure if it doesn't make much difference in weight and performance, i might as well take the plunge and go all out on the 18's.


does anyone know what size the rubber would be on 10" wide 18's as well as 9" wide?

i was leaning more towards the SF-Winning... but then i'd just be copying mr. sean wagner.. lol, right now i'm thinking the Kuwagata's they're pretty stylish, and i doubt anyone has them on a Z32 anywhere, so i'd be nice and unique. now all i need is some photoshopping skillz so i can see what they would look like on there.

Oh! another thing, what are your guys' suggestions for rubber? something that'll last a decent amount of time but is still pretty sticky..

i love my nitto 555's. i never seen a tire stick so much without being drag's. good tire but they are up their in cost but i think they are worth it.

yokohama avs es100's. i was going to get those tires, but then my front ones were giving out and had to replace them, and i didn't have enough money for the yokohama's, so i just go fuzion zri's. but i have heard a lot of good things about es100's.

VOLK: The best JDM wheel out there! If you are familiar at all with JDM or the drift scene then you have heard of VOLK. I might add that ADVAN makes some pretty good rims also... why stop there? BLITZ has some nice looking rims for FR. So does VEILSIDE... all these rims are expensive however! But if you got the money... or you save up your pennies... I think they are well worth it!

1via... are those rims light weight tho? i'm looking for something that's hopefully going to be considerably lighter than stock, if at all possible (i'm not too familiar with rim weights) and like you said, something that takes FR into consideration

the stock wheels on a 300zx are pretty damn light. and plus, the stock 300zx wheels were designed to bring air flow to the brakes to cool them off.

Well if you look at them, they are designed to pull air from inside the fender well past the brakes, through the rims and away from the car. Pretty slick really. That and they are pretty damn light for factory rims, any replacement rims will really be more cosmetic then weight reducing, though you might find a pair that are a pound or two lighter. If you got a sweet set of 18s you got to have then by all means lay out the cash. But if its performance you seek, better to spend the money under the hood.

yeah i guess you've got a good point there broke... why have a sweet set of 18's when i could have a pop charger, nice borla or specialtyz (not sure the name they gave it) exhaust and possibly a JWT ecu for the same price? maybe i'll do that first then get a nice set of rims... by then i should be making more than 10.50 an hr :-s

They are some of the lightest rims out there (VOLK)... some models weigh as little as 12lbs. That's great when it comes to wheel weight! There are lighter wheels (WELD and other hard-core racing rims...) but those are ridiculously expensive!
