Quaife LSD or AWD?

I have heard so much about Quaife LSDs, that doing an AWD conversion on my spyder now seems ridculously over-priced and redundant the more I read about how good Quaife is.

I am no expert at launching FWDs and always get wheel-hop or embarassingly loud screams from the tires in the heat of the moment. What would be more cost-effective...the LSD, or an AWD, to help me with traction issues?

(soon to get EVO16G on my 97 spyder, if thats important).

Re: Quaife LSD or AWD?

LSD most likely considering that AWD also adds weight and its harder to maintain, its also better on gas bcuz you won't be running full time AWD

There is however the feeling and control of having AWD, but you'll need differential(s) for it as well, if you wanted you could get the same suspension drivetrain setup as the EVO and hopefully get the same traction and manueverability

Re: Quaife LSD or AWD?

look i'm doing a gs-t awd but you allready know that, actully I have all the parts I need, but yestarday I went to a mitsu dealer to buy an oil pan cause mine brakes in the accident and I ask a friend of mine who works in the parts departmen, how much it will cost to buy all the parts I need to make the swap, we start calculating with the computer and finally we saw a huge number like 7000 dolares only for the most expensive parts, without the bolts you need and some small things.
If it wasn't cause I have all that i should try to find a eclipse gsx and not make this swap, man is so fuking hard , I though it was going to be easier , and i'm just in the half of the proyect.

Re: Quaife LSD or AWD?

its a hell of a lot harder to do a AWD swap on a hard top GST then a spyder! i have been researchin this for about 3 months now getting ready for my winter project! its not goin to be easy but it should definatly be a good experiance... although it will probably be easier for me seeing i have a lift! works wonders i dont really care about the weight seeing the power i plan to run will make up for it AWD launch in a spyder ***i'm spent!***

Re: Quaife LSD or AWD?

AWD will cost you more than you can imagine. There's not much interest in AWD as an upgrade for a FWD car, compared to LSD. If you are into the project, you may consider it, otherwise the LSD is basically your only option. It costs probably 5x less also..

Re: Quaife LSD or AWD?

if you don't want the parts BRAND NEW try finding the used ones from a GSX, I actually heard from a friend though that a GSX had a slightly wider frame, but i'm almost positive that isn't true

in fact a while back there was a GSX part car on ebay for sale for 5k thats cheaper than the 7k u'd hafta pay and you could part out the turbo etc. and get money back

BTW does anyone know about the PHANTOM GRIP LSD? its priced at liek 300$$ but i was wondering how good of a deal it would be check it out at nopi.com or checkthe link

Re: Quaife LSD or AWD?

ok put it this way...

if you were to get an AWD conversion, you are not going to want to stay with the stock diff. and if you do your research you will see that the front diff for the GS-T and GSX is the same product. is it clicking yet?

in other words, you can look at it like this:

by getting the quaife front LSD you are simply taking another step towards finishing the AWD project
