ZC or B16?
I've been wanting to do a swap for awhile and i'm debating a zc or a b16. B16 has more horse and cost alot more. The zc is cheaper with 30 less horses and it alot cheaper. It will bolt into my 89 crx si alot easier too. I think I could get the zc to be faster then a b16 and dunno if the v-tec makes that big of a diffrence. Lemme hear so input.

Re: ZC or B16?
There is definently more aftermarket parts available for the b16, and replacement parts for the zc will be harder to find. But go for what your budget allows, if you want something different in the future you could save up $ and sell the zc to buy a new motor.

Re: ZC or B16?
I think people talk the ZC down more than they should. I was really into doing a ZC swap and did alot of researching and found parts for it that people said weren't out there, like cams and other valve train components. For replacement parts lots of SOHC D16 parts will fit and also the 87-89 teggy that had a motor similar to the ZC but not the same. But for what you are going to put into the ZC to make it faster than the b16, you could have throw a few extra hundred at the b16.
I really think the best bang for your buck is the ZC, but if you want to be fast, a b16 is want you want, you'll end up spending more on the ZC in the long run.

Re: ZC or B16?
Yes, you can mod the ZC to get the extra 30hp to beat a B16, thats fine and dandy. But now you should look at how much $$ you're going to spend to get 30 more horsepower out of a ZC. Then, you're still just beating stock B16As. All they need is a bit of money in mods and they'll be ripping on you again.
One thing that got me when I had my ZC was how expensive cams were for it, and then I didn't even know where the fuck to get such things as valve springs and titanium retainers for a ZC. That alone was more money than the B16. What I love about my B16 is the ease of making it a lot faster for not a lot of money. Everyone's goals with their cars are different though. I want daily driven mid 13s on street tires. With no troubles, so that basically rules out forced induction for me wich is fine. For less than $800cdn I can pick up a GSR block and get a lot more usable power out of that. For less than $400cdn I can get ITR or CTR cams and get good power gains from them, for less than $250cdn I can get and ITR intake manifold and get good power out of that. It depends what your goals are. I liked my ZC for the power I got for the money I payed for it, but in the end I'm wanting an all-motor freak so B16 was the way for me to go. I LOVE the B series interchangablilty. Its nice for trannys, heads, blocks, cams, pistons. Its all so good.
