my sad, sad story

okay, so i made a thread about my 3000GT awhile ago when i got it. i was so excited and i absolutely loved the car. but soon after, problems arose. the car would randomly die while idling. so, i took it to the mitsu dealership and had them look at it. they fixed the problem, but told me the car had engine problems that would not be worth it to fix because they would have to take apart the engine or something. then about a week later the timing belt went out and that was the last straw...

then there is the guy i bought it from. quite a character. he would not give me the title for the car and just kept telling me that he was going to get it soon. well, two sets of dealer tags later, i still didn't have it. i did some investigation and found out that he has like 12 other people waiting for titles. so, i started putting legal pressure on him, since you can't issue more than one set of dealer tags. we settled outside of court and he took the now broken car back and i got my money back.

so two months, lots of gas, 2 girls (followed my car to a party), and a street racing video later, my car is gone and i'm in withdrawl. i've been looking for another, but something is always wrong. i'm suprised at how many automatics there are. who would want that? i found one, but i thought i would see what you guys thought before i looked into i more because it's a considerable distance away. it's a 91, pearl white, 122K, full 90K service, new clutch, new brakes, new tires, K&N filter, red interior (never seen that before), and the most important part...its a VR4. they are only asking 6500 for it, which seems unreal to me. is 122K to many miles? it did say it had a new timing belt and water pump and everything, what else could go wrong at that high of mileage? well, thanks for your help and if anyone is selling a 3000GT for under $7000 and lives anywhere near kansas city, i'm definately interested.

Sory to hear about that dude, did you at least have a bill of sale to prove you made the transaction? I was afraid of that so I got a pic of the dude signing it and called his bank to make shure that they actually did own the title, the bank took their sweet time but a week later he dropped it off in person on his new bike (1 hour drive from his house, I said he could mail it but he fealt bad about it being so late) good guy.

Re: my sad, sad story

Hey rush3000, sorry to hear about all the problems with your ex-car (hehe...ex) but at least you got your money back. I think that's the best part! About the VR4, if the guy took good care of the car (which it sounds as if he did), then it'll probably last a long time still. 122K is kinda high but if maintained well, I'm thinking it should be okay. VR4 owners will be able to explain more. And if not, you could always just wait and keep looking. It'll be worth the wait. Either way, good luck.

Re: my sad, sad story

i dont know if anyone already said this but DO NOT take your car to a dealership, i've heard stories of people taking it to a dealership and they never seem to turn out too well. I know there are a lot of autos out there (i had to settle myself for an auto) but honestly they have a lot of push in them for an automatic car and when you punch it it downshifts for you nice and smooth

Re: my sad, sad story

yeah, i've sure learned my lesson about trusting car dealers. i will definately be more careful next time. oh well, i did have the bill of sale and i got my money back in the end, but in the short time i had the car i fell in love with it. now i MUST have another one. everyone is like "what if all 3000GTs are like that," but they just don't understand.

and to the guy who said that he has an automatic and that it still shifts fast and smooth, that's not the reason i want a manual. i'm sure the automatic transmission can shift faster and smoother than i can. i'm no pro at it, it's just so much more fun.

i thought about the vr4 i was looking at and i heard alot about synchros going bad at high mileage. how expensive is that to fix. if i bought that car i wouldn't have alot of money right away to fix it up if something went wrong. the guy said that he commutes to work though and that he drives 100 miles a day. so maybe it wouldn't be that bad if they are highway miles. i don't know how long he's had it though. i really wish it was closer. it's almost 300 miles away so i'd really have to trust the guy is telling the truth about everything, which is hard to do now. it seems like this is the only decent deal i can find. these cars seem to be overpriced alot. anybody had any luck talking people down on the price? like a couple thousand dollars down. i guess i'll just have to be patient.....

Re: my sad, sad story

Who said that there auto shifts fast and smooth? mine shifts like crap on 2nd goin into 3rd.. but its nice when u floor it, 1st goes into 2nd at 6600 rpm...but as far as sound from the exhaust when it shifts.. u can hear mine shift up to 3rd.. then back down to 2nd.. then back into 3rd... i dont know what the deal with autos are.. but my dad said some1 told him that the ecu tells the transmission to shift that way because the motor is too strong for the transmissin, so it shifts slow an easy

Re: my sad, sad story

hey i might be selling my VR4. I want to get a newer one but i live about 8 hours away from kansas city. But here some specs on the car, it's got 1996 black VR4 with 114000 miles on it. Iam the third owner. The interieor is near perfect conditons except for the front seats u can see some lines but that's totaly normal. Everything works except for the front right speaker which is blown. U cant have excessive bass or the speaker will start cracking. Just IM me if ur intrested then i can give u the VIN # to look it up on carfax. But iam at a 50/50 right now if i want to sell it or not so like i said just im me and we can kinda talk a lil bit. wont take less than 14000$
