Good Pricing For 97's

Hey guys i've come across a 97 grand prix GT 3.8 L selling from a dealer for 7,800, 8,500 after taxes with leather, HUD, CD, alloys, and premium sound with 48k miles. It is in good condition without scratches or bad wearing. I also have come across a 97 grand prix SE 3.8L selling from a private seller at 6,000 starting before haggling. The SE seems to have been taken care of well and has all the mechanic logs. Also it has 81,000 miles, with a motorized sunroof, but not premium sound or leather. If i could get the price of the SE to 5,500 would it be a better buy than the GT from the dealer. The GT seems to have old coolant and brake fluid not to mention a bit of an oil leak. Is the car likely to hold up with the miles as well or is it at a much higher risk for things to go wrong vs. the one with 48k miles. Please give me your opinions guys.

Re: Good Pricing For 97's

i wouldne get the gt, oil leaks can be surprisingly expensive to fix, ive seen people have to pay over 1000 dollars to replace parts which were causing leaks, its suspicious that a dealer wouldnt fix these things, if they were cheap reapirs i bet they would. Beyond that i have found that there are two types of used grand prixs, ones that have no problems, and ones that have tons of huge problems, get a good one and the 3800 will run forever, get a bad one, and you regret it. as far as the SE, take it to a mechanic, and figure out how everything is doin, and does it have the 3100 or the 3800 engine in it? either way, 5500 is way too high, 4g at most for a 3800 se, like 3.7g at most for the 3100 se.
