Quick question about LED Bulbs !!
I have a 97 Accord and have installed Altezza tailights with red lenses for my brakes and clear for my blinkers. I have a standard clear one in now and folks say they can't see my brake lights very well in the daytime. So, my question is this, Which color LED bulb should I put in for the brakes? Will white LED be ok since Led is brighter, or do I need to go with red LED?
Thanks in advance Guys! And hurry, cause I don't want my new tailights smashed into the back seat!! LOL

Just an FYI...It's illegal to have any color but RED for your tail and brake lights...

Re: Quick question about LED Bulbs !!
I don't think any manufacturer of tail lights makes the braking section in any other color than red. They wouldn't pass DOT, I suspect.

Re: Re: Quick question about LED Bulbs !!
The Lense covers are Red and you can't tell that the bulb I have in now is clear. Which by the way is the factory bulb that was in my original lights. I just need it to light up brighter so people will see me stopping in the bright sun. They don't glow as bright as the factory ones did. And I just need to know if the LED ones will truly make it brighter because I have heard conflicting stories and don't want to waste my money on them if they aren't.
Thanks for your respones!! |

While LED bulbs are brighter, they are tough to see from behind a lens unless the lens is clear. Since there are probably only 8 to 10 LEDs on the bulb, it's very easy to miss them, especially in sunlight. I used to have clear taillights with a red background, and the LEDs were very tough to see unless it was starting to get dark out. On cars with stock LED tails, notice that they have quite a few LEDs integrated into the brake unit (at least 15-20 or more), and they are bigger and brighter than those found on the LED bulbs.
I'd suggest using brighter bulbs such as the PIAA Extremes phoenixitc mentioned, and use LEDs for your turn signals. Otherwise, you're just begging to get rear-ended. If you do install LEDs for your turn signals, don't be alarmed if they blink rapidly. This is common as the LEDs require much less power to operate than conventional bulbs do. As a result, the CPU thinks a bulb is burnt out or missing, and the signals blink twice as fast. You can avoid this by installing load eqaulizers and that will keep your lights blinking at their normal speed. I read somewhere on here that newer LED bulbs managed to avoid the hyper-blinking, but i haven't seen them anywhere so i can't say if that's true or not. |

Re: Quick question about LED Bulbs !!
Thanks Jas M.... and phoenixitc... That has answered my question about the LED bulbs. Looks like I'll be getting PIAA Extremes for my brake lights.
