My 91's Ignition Is Locked - Help!!

I just got this jeep less than a week ago, and ive already started to fix things on it. My dad decided to be "nice" and try and fix one of the probelms for me (had a hard time turning over when trying to start). He figured it was the battery connection, so he disctonnected the battery and cleaned the terminals but now, when I try and start my jeep I can't. The ignition is locked on the off position and the only way I can turn it is towards me for the radio, and I cant even roll my window up. If ANYONE has any experience with this could you please respond to my thread. Thanks

Well you should be looking at two things intially. One is the actually ignition. They are notorious to get weak springs, or break all together and cause such a problem. Before it did this,m how did the actual ignition sound when you turned to key. Was it stiff or want to stick on its on?? Also, there is an ignition box on the steering column that controls your start, off, ac, etc. That would be the second place I would look. Those would be my two starting points right there. I have a 91' i just aquired and its ignition spring is getting weak. It wants to stick in the start position, etc. So the spring could have just broke keeping it from going into the start postion. Hope this helps ya...
