Question Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

hey all this is my first post EVER so bear with me. The story is that i have 90 honda accord sitting at home as a project car. My intention was to replace everything on the car with performance parts of course, and put a cheap skyline bodykit on it to make it as close to a skyline as i could get it because thats the car i crave but can't have. The only problem is that my pricelist is climbing past 13,000 and im just 18 going into college and shitty part time jobs don't leave me with 13,000 just laying around...until i rob the bank ....newho a couple of weeks ago at work (boring as all hell...so im on the internet all the time) i stumbled upon AF and got to reading about the 240sx and how similar it is to the skyline. Around here all i see are the 90-94 model so i guess i didnt notice the similarity. So this got me to thinking about throwing the honda out the window and starting over with the 240sx with a rb26dett. The benefits of this would be rwd, handling, skyline engine (always good) which can handle the power increases. At first i would keep the engine and car stock as i would be broke....but would a stock 240sx with a stock rb26dett be as fast as my upgraded honda??? I have a lengthy pricelist that i would let you guyz see....but i dont know how to attach it to this post????? I think i have come to the conclusion that im going to go with a 240sx with a rb26dett but i donno if i should go with a r33 or r34 clip....and a 5spd or 6spd......and awd or rwd!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I would like to go with r34 6spd awd but ive been hearing that the 6spd has durability problems....is this true??? I have also been reading that if i do all this i mind as well make the car rhd while im at it because it wouldnt be much more work......Forgot to mention that this is a father son project too......attempted project. With my honda i had everything picked out and knew exactly what i was gonna do but now with the nissan im starting from scratch.... I know that you other guyz in this forum know a lot more about the 240 than i do and your knowledge and great wisdom (kiss ass) would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

yea just look around in other posts. youd have to have put all that 13K into motor work to beat a RB26 240 in an accord well not really but they haul ass.
easier swap is RB25DET and the 5spd using the RWD.

wow you could have read that all your self had you scearched. be happy i didnt go off i do that alot =)

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

well the 91-94's 240sx's don't share any similarity to skylines. It's the 95-96 zenkis that bare some resemblance to the r32 skyline. As far as an accord tryin to look like a skyline, that's just travesty. And like acesnyper said, RB25DET is a better fit than the twin turboed RB26

its going to be about twice as much to build up a 240sx compared to an Accord. Accord parts are DIRT CHEAP

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

Yea i know that the accord is the cheaper way to go. But i was gonna leave the 240sx stock and the rb stock for a while until i had some money to throw around. If i had that much done, that car would rape anything where i'm from. Im starting a second job and so hopefully that will bring in enough income to start upgrading the 240sx.......I'm starting to work on the pricelist for that now and so far its pretty similar prices...until it comes to the engine...then its gonna big expensive, but i figure....go big or go home.....if ur not gonna do it right the first time mind as well not do it at all. thats why i switched from the accord to the sx cuz of the benefits.

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

Your 13000 pricelist is going to be gone just buying the car and swapping a RB26 in. My suggestion, forget the RB26 and put an RB20 or 25 in if you really want the skyline engine. If not, just stick with the engine you have.

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

i have a 96 240sx lined up for 1200 with some tranny problems and some cosmetic damage....but if im doing the swap it wont matter....i also have a rb26dett clip lined up for 5500....but im not sure about that....the guy hasnt gotten back to me on that yet. Plus im assuming im going to need various other parts to get it to work. Plus custom work that we should be able to do for the most part. Ive read other threads about what you all need but some people say one thing and others say another, so i dont know exactly what all im gonna need after the clip but i will find out when i get to it i guess. unless someone that has done a swap before knows???

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

I have a 240sx, but a well done honda car would be nice too. There are too many annoying riced out hondas and creating an accord like http://ppg-lantis.s6.xrea.com/eunjoy...02/honda02.htm
might be a nice change from all the other skyline wannabe hondas I see. Whichever way you choose, thank you for coming to your senses and not creating a bastarded version of a skyline by throwing on a kit on the accord. You would have been the laughing stock of the road and that would have been unfortunate b/c you seem to have a genuine respect for skylines. Anyways, you might want to also think of what sort of driving you are going to do b/c accords and 240sx's offer different things depending on whether you want to do track racing, drag, drift etc.
Either way good luck with the project.

i would go with the rb25 if i was you

the rb20 is nice but they are gettting older and much more costly to upgrade and what not, plus the price in work to drop it in is fairly close to the rb25 well at least for me

the rb26 to make it fit you would have like no money left for anything else espcially if your going into college, you would have to keep that engine stock for a while not by choice but because cost

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

Props for your project, I truly believe, if you are serious in performance, RWD is the way to go. Post the progress, and Pics.
Lets just put it this way, dispite the similarities of the S14 and Skyline, you can just forget the AWD setup, it ain't going to happen, anything is possible, but installing the AWD will cost no less than 25K. You can choose which power plant you want, RB20, RB25 or RB26.
I just find it pointless for the RB20, now the RB25 is cheaper, and seems to have a bigger after market following as the RB26 is newer. Secondly, unless switching to RHD, I've heard you have to give up the TT setup for a single Turbo, due to steering shaft.
Try checking the FAQ, there is tons of info on this, or use the search, theres' tons of info on this, or ask Dekand, he has an RB25, his looks cool.
Good Luck.

Dropping in an RB25 or 26 is the same except that with the RB26 you need to either convert to single turbo, or get some custom downpipes, McKinney and Bumble Bee sell them. You also need a RB25 oilpan and tranny. I'm pretty sure those r the only diffs between 25 and 26.

Re: Dilema....honda accord vs. 240sx

sr20...i think logik meant installation wise there pretty much the same amount of work. I was also reading the FAQ about installing the rb engine in a sx and how they made there own intake manifold and downpipe.....my dad has done custom manifolds before (used to pull tractors....hick thing) so i should be covered for that area......SHO411 how come it would cost near 25k to make it AWD??? If i have the whole front clip and im NOT paying for the labor then how come it would cost so much??? Plus i live in Wisconsin so i doubt there is a shop close enough for me to haul the car to when i do run into problems. I would like to use a rb26dett w/6spd awd...even if i am crazy.....so then would i want to make it RHD just to make it easier and fix the problem with the steering shaft??? My car would be a daily driver a little track use for fun...and rarely drifting. and im hoping maybe someday car shows if its worthy.
